Porch awning is a shade used to cover the porch area of the house. This is made up of a canvas or some other synthetic materials. This is mainly used to protect the open area from direct sun, rain and other unpleasant weather conditions. The awning is attached to the wall of the house and it extends to cover the open porch area. The modern shade design now accommodates both the decorative and protective needs.
There are two designs for the awning; it can either be a retractable or a stationery shade. A stationery awning is one which is fixed to the wall of the house permanently and stays there forever whilst the retractable one is one that can be rolled back when not in use. The retractable patio awning has an advantage that it can be rolled back in times of harsh winds thus protecting from damage unlike in the stationery.
Awnings are made up of various types of material. The characteristics for the material are that it should be resistant to ultraviolet rays from the sun, rot proof and must also not stretch. There are materials to suit different costs; it can be made of aluminium or canvas. The supporting rods for both designs are made up of steel or fibreglass. These shades can be found in various colour blends and designs to meet various aesthetic tastes of customers. Awnings have help cut consumption of electricity as they compliment the effect of air conditioners as they cool down the porch area.
