Weather changes can sometimes be really mean to our patio and porch furniture. If it is made of natural material such as wood, it will eventually start to rot because of the rain and snow, or become pale because of the excessive sun exposure. It will also get dirty, but the previous mentioned effects will damage it more. It is a different story with plastic furniture. Sure, the sun will damage it a bit, but the rain will not hurt it. So the main trouble with plastic is filth.
So it is not uncommon for people to start asking themselves how to clean plastic furniture properly. Well, it depends on the type of the stain. If it is only dust, you can just wipe it off with a damp cloth. But if the stains are tougher, you should take time and do it properly. By the way, this procedure also work if you have a plastic porch awning.
First of all, you will need very warm water. Do not try to do it with cold water, because that is not the way to clean plastic furniture properly. Pour some detergent into the water, or better yet, use some specialized plastic cleaning liquid. Car shampoo will also work, especially with porch furniture. Don't forget to wear gloves if you have sensitive skin. Use a sponge and the water with detergent to thoroughly scrub the plastic furniture surface. Be careful about the small crannies and use a nail or a hand brush if necessary. Again, take your time. Be careful not to press to hard so you don't scratch the surface.
After you are done rinse it well and check if there are any spots or stains left and take care of them. For the toughest stains, use pure detergent and soak them for a while, before scrubbing them.
After you are done and happy with the end result, wait for the furniture to dry. After that, use the car wax or some specialized polish for plastic and apply it to the furniture. That is it. This is how you clean plastic furniture properly.
